Spiritual Direction is:

"help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God's personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship."

~ William A. Barry, SJ, and William J. Connolly, SJ

The focus of spiritual direction is not on fixing problems but on discerning where God is showing up or where He seems absent in the midst of your day-to-day life. This requires careful listening - to the directee as they share their story, to God present with us and to what is happening in our own hearts. As we meet together we acknowledge the presence of God's Spirit who truly is the spiritual director in this relationship.

Spiritual direction is “space to explore the everyday ordinariness for the presence of God and the workings of grace,” precisely at those times when “nothing seems to be happening.” — (Eugene Peterson)

His heart is to come alongside others as a companion to help light the way in discerning the movements of God in directee's lives. In his work as a spiritual director, he trusts that there is always a third Person in the room, the Holy Spirit, who is the true spiritual director in our lives. Our desire in our sessions is to be present and attentive to Him.
